British English Dictionary Issues

Kingsoft is by far the best word processing program on the market. I love it.
My only gripe is that I can't seem to change my dictionary to British English, and I need to do so for my work.

I've followed instructions about downloading zipped .dic and .aff files, renaming and replacing existing ones etc., but to no avail. I'm still getting American spelling.

I truly love Kingsoft Office and I don't want to have to resort back to Open Office just because of dictionary issues, although I will if there is no other option.

Please can someone in the know help me?

I'd sincerely appreciate it.

I'vee also tried installing an  English UK dictionary without success. However, there is a work-around. When an American spelling - color; kilometer etc - comes up, I change it to UK English (colour, kilometre etc) and add the UK spelling to the dictionary. Next time the word comes round, you will find that the "correct" UK speling is accepted. Not perfect, of course, but really there are only a limited number of commonly used words where the spelling differs and once you've got these in your dictionary, you won't be troubled again.

Thanks Salamander. I thought of doing that and I guess I'll give it a try. It just becomes difficult when writing lengthy texts, in which case those words sometimes slip under my radar. Nonetheless, perhaps I should just write a list of common British words and add them all in one go.

Having said that, I do believe that if Kingsoft Writer is to remain the leading, free word processor, its developers must remedy this glitch once and for all. It's only a matter of time until enough people grow frustrated and seek alternative applications.

Once again, thanks for your tip. Much appreciated.

This can easily be done by downloading the Libreoffice dictionary files (*.oxt) from their website. Once you have downloaded it extract the files using something like 7zip. In there you will find the .dic and .aff files. Copy this to the following location: C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Kingsoft\office6 (in Win7 where xxx is the user profile)

You will then open Ksoft office and go to spellchecker >> custom dictionaries and select the required dictionary that you just added. Keep in mind have only 1 ticked or this may not work.

This method has worked for me with the UK english dictionary. I hope this helps.

This can easily be done by downloading the Libreoffice dictionary files (*.oxt) from their website.  ...believe we all have this experience - glass canned food finished, you want to stay in the jar to continue to use, but the above stickers stickers how stubborn how to do? Do not worry, the following tips you no longer rush -advertising First, use the hair dryer: open the hair dryer, hot air to melt the label of the adhesive. Be careful not to burn. And then from the edge of the label, a little bit slowly set off until completely torn up. Second, all wet: soaked in hot water for a while and then torn off, this is the most common practice. Third, only the surface of the wet: the kitchen paper towel coated with a dish, the lid on the label, put it aside for a while after torn off. Want to quickly tear off, you can then spray the citric acid water, until the solution penetrates the entire label after tearing off. Fourth, remove the traces: If you use the label sticker third point of the method left traces, then sprayed sesame sodium carbonate water, with a melon cloth or sponge can be wiped clean.

This is very useful, thank you
